A day of "skills and drills"

Hi everyone! I finally bought the flip camera that I wanted to use to record the "skills and drills" I do with the kids and their progress. I believe that one of the most vital things for an autistic child is to stay engaged in the typical world. I know my autistic son remains in his own reality most of the time. Alot of it has to do with sensory issues. Because of this his attention span is almost non-exsistent. By keeping him engaged as much as possible, he will be forced to pay attention to the world around him and slowly be surely refrain from slipping back into his own world. At the same time it will help his sensory intergration improve. My son Gabriel does not have the attention span issues that my son Ethan does. He is developmentally behind because of his chromosomal abnormality, but loves to learn and does not have the sensory intergration disfunction that Ethan does. Eventhough Gabriel doesn't need to be pulled into our world like Ethan does, I believe he will also benefit from the "skills and drills". I use some of my own "skills and drills" and I am also intergrating "skills and drills" from the book "Autism Recovery Manual of Skills and Drills" by Elizabeth Burton Scott and Lynne Gillis. Here is a video introducing my kids and I. I will start posting videos of their progress.

Working with the kids

First off I have to comment on how cold it is.....burrr! I so long for the warm days of summer. So I am on a journey to help my babies. I have been working with both Ethan and Gabriel in the morning before they go to school. Ethan needs a lot of prompting and redirecting still. My goal is to pull him out of his world and ease him in to the "typical "world. Hopefully soon I will get a flip camera so I can record some of my session with my kids. I just want my babies to be the best they can be. No matter what it takes I will be by their side. They are my reason for being.

Starting to blog

Hi everyone! Well I know this blogging thing has been around for a while, but I am very much new to it. I am going to use this blog to show the progress of my beautiful special needs children. I want to share my experiences with having a child with autism and and child with a chromosomal abnormality. I will be sharing videos of them and their progress as I work with them. I will also use this blog to give weekly updates on my family and what we have been up to. If you are a parent of a child with special needs I hope my blogging will help you in some way. If you know of somebody who is a parent of a child with special needs, please tell them about my blog. I am excited to begin this blogging journey!
